Meeting Minutes for 9/7/2010: Present – :Sue Johnson, Jerry Murphy, Jay Keyes, David Ramos, Sandy Britton for Pat Power, Patrick Gallager, Rosemarie Bonnington, Kim Porte and Despina Athanason for Gary Athanason. Board Members Absent: - :Mara Basic, Ross Concklin, Ann Marie Krzesinski, Bobby Rowe, Allan Avery, and Sara Stauffer. Guests – Officer Michael Williams and Erik Wilson of the City of Clearwater, City Commissioner Bill Jonson, and CBA members Vicki Jackson, Ron Delp, Marly McMillan, Marie and Raymond Dube. Sgt. Fisherkeller of the Clearwater Police Department spoke first. He took questions from the board and was asked by David Ramos to send his compliments and thanks to Lt. Young for what he has done regarding Eldorado and Gardenia Street. He then told us that Lt. Young would hopefully be at our next meeting at which time he would introduce his replacement, Lt. Gandy. Quorum was determined and the meeting was called to order at 6:04 P.M. A motion was made by Jay Keyes to accept the Minutes as posted on the Website. The motion was seconded by David Ramos and the Minutes were accepted. The Treasurer’s Report was presented by Bill Johnson. Jay Keyes made a motion to accept the Report as presented, David Ramos seconded the motion and the Treasurer’s Report was accepted. Officer Michael Williams introduce himself as the new Liaison Officer for the Anti Crime Team in our area. He will be attending most of our meetings. He told us about a new program called Comstat which is a computer program the Police will be using to help recognize patterns so that the officers will be able to react faster. He also gave us some personal history, telling us that he has worked the day shift for three years on the Beach. He is also former active duty Navy and has previously worked on Captain Nemo’s Pirate Ship and on the Dolphin Encounter. He is honored that he was chosen for the position of Liaison Officer for the Anti Crime Team on the Beach. Kinchen can be reached at 562-4242 extension 3327 or by email at robert.kinchen@myclearwater.com Fundraiser – Sue Johnson announced that the October Fest had been cancelled due to beer sale restrictions. She asked for the Board to think of other ideas to raise money. The $50 deposit given to the Recreation Center will be used for our annual meeting in December. Neighborhood of the Quarter – Sue Johnson, Ron Delp and Jerry Murphy were present on Aug. 31st to receive our award for winning Neighborhood of the Quarter for the summer period. It was decided that we would place our sign at Acacia Circle. City Government – Ron Delp announced that on Sept. 13, 2010 at the Salvation Army on Druid the CNC would be hosting a forum to discuss the pros and cons of Amendment 4. Which would make it necessary to bring any change in the conforms of the Comprehensive Plan before the public in the form of a referendum. Environment – Marly McMillan approached the Landscaping Department to request that some of the free Sea Oats that are now not going to be planted on South Beach please be planted at the beach access at Gardenia on North Beach. She was told to approach the CBA for their approval and came before us for that purpose. Jay Keyes made a motion to give CBA approval to request that free Sea Oats be planted at the beach access at Gardenia Street. Kim Porte seconded the motion. Discussion followed with Jerry Murphy asking who would plant the Sea Oats. Marly explained that Brian Murphree of the City Landscaping Department would be in charge. A vote was taken and the motion passed. Marly will follow up with Brian, bringing him a copy of our meeting Minutes when they are made available to her. Friends of the Library Update- Ron Delp told us that meetings are currently being held to discuss keeping the pool open year round. This year the pool will be open through September. He also announced that the pool slide will be replaced by the City per Kevin Dunbar. Clearwater Beach Chamber Update – Rosemarie Bonnington reported that the free movies on Pier 60, sponsored by the City and the Community of Business Partners, is becoming quite popular. She distributed a list of upcoming movies and asked that the list be made available on our website. She also reminded us of the Power Boat Race Weekend coming up on the first weekend of October. Old Business – Jay Keyes explained to us why Tampa Bay Harvest had not been successful in contracting with Publix for their excess produce and dented cans. He further explained that they would be uniting with the “Hunger Council” and will be collecting more food than they would have from Publix. Our Logo will appear on the truck used to pick up these donations and he extends their thanks to CBA for our donation to Tampa Bay Harvest. By – Laws Committee – Jerry Murphy sent proposed By-Laws changes to Board Member on June 1, 2010. He resent them prior to tonight’s meeting. Discussion was held as to why the wording was not changed in proposed By-Laws regarding membership application/approval as we had discussed at the July meeting. Jerry stated that we should have sent changes in writing to the committee. Jerry is opposed to changing the wording, stating that we need to be able to refuse membership. He also stated that we need to be able to offer reduced fees for late arrivals. He stated the committee will consider any proposed changes it receives in writing by Oct 7, 2010. Nominating Committee – Sue Johnson asked that Ron Delp head this committee and come up with a slate for the 2011 Officers and Board. Ron reviewed with us who would be leaving and who would be staying regarding term limitations. He estimates that he will need at least 3-4 new people to work with CBA in 2011. He requested that we each come up with at least one name to add to his list for consideration. He asked for volunteers to assist him and Jerry Murphy agreed to help him The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm. Submitted by Kim Porte
