Wayne Andrews, Alvin Erinburg of the Sand Key Civic Association attended and invited any of us to join them at their meeting on the first Wednesday of the month, 7 p.m., at the Sailing Center Lt. Andrews reported that Pier 60 should be reopening on June 6 just slightly delayed from the original date. A discussion regarding the mess surrounding the Sand Pearle project site resulted in Lt. Andrews promising to pay them a much needed visit. It was also asked if they could expand their working hours to speed up the process. Lt. Andrews informed us that noise constraints and resulting complaints from nearby residents prevent that from happening. Minutes from the May meeting were accepted. Treasurer – was presented and accepted Community - Anne Garris asked us to consider assisting the Memorial Civic Center Association by offering to hold approximately $5000.00 in our Foundation Bank Account. This money has been earmarked for use on the Clearwater Beach Library. Their plans for spending this money have been put on hold until the fate of the Library has been decided. The board agreed to hold the money should they ask us to. Membership – In Pat’s absence Ron Delp made a motion to print and send out an updated Roster to include all new members. It was seconded and the motion was passed. It was decided that David Ramos would use a format similar to the one most recently used as it was easily read and very inexpensive. Ron made an additional motion on Pat’s behalf to allow a discounted membership of $15 for new members joining mid-year. The motion was seconded and discussed. It was decided that the by-laws would not allow this as they are currently written. Ron withdrew his motion. Government Affairs – Jay reminded us to be aware of local cuts that are being discussed. The Beach Library, Recreation Center and the Jolly Trolley are all at risk! Anne suggested that each Board Member call each Councilman and state the need to fund these beach amenities. Jay suggested we write another letter to the Council voicing the CBA support of the Library, the Recreation Center and the Jolly Trolley. Ron Delp asked Anne to confirm his belief that our Beach Library and Recreation Center are the very first and therefore the oldest Library and Recreation Center in the City of Clearwater. He asked that these facts be included in the letter and others voiced their support for these facts to be included. It was also mentioned that the proposed cuts could also affect our Police and Fire Department and these are also very important subjects to add to the above phone calls and letter. Coalition – No news Publicity –Access Pinellas has invited CBA to their show. Lois and Lisa will be interviewed on June 9th. They plan to discuss the various social activities and events we hold each year. (Update – Lois and Ron were interviewed and the show can be viewed on Britehouse channel 96. Next week the DRC will meet to discuss this issue. She thanks everyone for their work and support in this protest. We hope that the DRC will issue no dock permits until they show unity of title and significant construction is shown towards building the condos. CAN - Ron reported that he is 90% complete on his project. He brought in a large binder containing all the information he has compiled. He stated that he has laid this out with the analytical eye of an engineer and would now like a second set of eyes to review and comment on what he has done. Candy Zimmerman eagerly volunteered. 2008 Golf Tournament – This year’s price to golf is higher because costs are higher. We need help getting more golfers and more sponsors. Prices are $135/golfer, Hole Sponsorship $100 or Hole and 4 Players for $600. He passed out brochures and encouraged everyone to help out!
