Meeting Minutes for 11/1/2011: Board Members Present: Patrick Gallagher, Jerry Murphy, Jay Keyes, Pat Power, Anne Garris, Ross Concklin, Ron Delp, Wendy Hutkin. Board Members Absent: Despina Athanason, Kim Porte, Sam Hutkin, Lillian Johnson Guests: Officer Williams – CW Police department, Eric Wilson – CW Public Communications, Lanny and Vicki Jackson and guest – CBA members. Quorum was determined and the meeting was called to order at about 6:00 p.m. Officer Williams was asked to speak first. He reported that the last month was relatively quite. There was a carjacking on Island Estates. The carjackers then headed north on Island Estate making it easy for the police to do their thing and catch the bad guys. Minutes - A motion was made to accept the Minutes as posted on the Website, it was seconded and the motion passed. The Treasurer’s Report was distributed by Bill Johnson. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report as written; the motion passed. EVENTS - Fall Picnic. The plan for the picnic is in place and tasks assigned. Set up will start at 1 PM on November 5 at Triangle Park. The picnic will start at 3 PM and conclude by 6 PM on Saturday. Annual meeting. Scheduled for December 9, 2011 … 6 – 8 PM. Set up should start around 3 PM. Pat Gallagher will plan and lead the event with support from Anne Garris and Pat Power … and others as appropriate. The format will be similar to a couple of years ago … finger food and refreshments, a Anne Garris bingo type game with prizes, and the election of new board members. A motion for a budget to not to exceed $500 was made, seconded, and approved. Christmas caroling. Anne Garris volunteered to lead the effort to make happen in late December, this year. Executive Committee – The nominating committee, within the executive committee, made the recommendation that Anne Garris, Jay Keyes, Jerry Murphy, Gary Athanason, and Lanny Jackson stand for election at the annual meeting for the 2012-2014 Year-group. Motion was made, seconded and approved. One opening remains in each of the 2011-2013 and 2010-2012 Year-groups. Write in nomination may be submitted prior to the annual meeting election or an individual can be appointed by the board during 2012. Jerry Murphy will inform all members of the Board-approved slate that will stand for election and the annual meeting information. Calendar for 2012. Wendy presented a calendar with identified 2012 events … next steps are specific dates, chairs identified, and budgets GOVERNMENT – candidate’s forum. As of this CBA meeting, there are three candidates that have committed to run …George Cretekos for Mayor, Doreen Dipolito for council member, and Jay Polgraze for council member. There are four others that have indicated they may run but have not committed and their names are not available. The uncommitted have till November 18, 2011 to officially declare their intentions and file the necessary paperwork. After November 18, 2011 all candidates will be contacted and invited to participate in a candidates forum on North CW Beach. The tentative date is January 11, 2012 … 6-8 PM at the Beach Recreation Center. All CBA bods and members are asked to provide questions and or concerns that should be directed to the candidates. Need to get an email out to all members asking them to share their concerns and questions. Who on the government committee should make this happen? ENVIRONMENT – Pat Power gave an update on the EAB and its position on the artificial turf ordinance. One of the major recommendations from the EAB was that the three islands be exempt from the use of artificial turf. The CBA had sent a letter to the EAB and council members recommending that the three islands be exempt. The artificial turf ordinance is still under development in the planning department. At this point it is not known when the ordinance will be presented to the city council. MEMBERSHIP – Jerry reported that we have about 70 members. The fall picnic and annual meeting will include a focus on improving membership. The suggestion was made that a new membership booklet be put together and distributed to members … a suggestion was made to solicit more business members. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY – no report. SHORT TERM RENTAL – no update.. COALITION – meeting is next week thus no report, The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:19 p.m.. Submitted by Ron Delp
